Zia Ul Haq Sarwari, Country Finance Director, Save the Children International

The IFR4NPO Country Champion in Afghanistan, Zia Ul Haq Sarwari recently hosted a meeting for anyone with an interest in non-profit financial reporting. We asked him to share his reflections.

IFR4NPO in Afghanistan – Reflections of the Country Champion

The level of interest amongst the stakeholders was very high. All the participants of the meeting agreed and were excited about the IFR4NPO project and are willing to contribute from their ends. The participants highlighted the following benefits of the IFR4NPO:

  • A single set of International Financial Reporting Standards for all NPOs around the world
  • It will ensure transparency and better reporting for all stakeholders.

The Ministry of Economy, CPA Afghanistan, international NGOs, audit firms and ACBAR are some of the important stakeholders which should be involved in this project. The network will be more broadened in the next meetings. Key challenges are the lack of awareness, lack of professional accountants and bringing all the stakeholders into the conversation, especially the government entities.

Everyone agreed to participate and contribute in this very important project, appreciating the need to work on this area. They have extended their readiness to respond to the consultation paper next year.

I was honestly pleasantly surprised to see the interest of participants in this project. They were really enthusiastic about this project and are ready to contribute from their ends.

We are so grateful to Zia Ul Haq and all our Country Champions for their wonderful voluntary service in reaching out to stakeholders all over the world! You can find details of the meeting, including a video recording here.
