A UK-qualified Chartered Certified Accountant with over twenty years’ experience in charity regulation and charity accounting and financial reporting, Nigel held senior roles at the Charity Commission for England and Wales and was Joint Chair of the UK-Ireland Charities SORP Committee.
He served on the advisory panel to the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies’ (CCAB) research on developing international financial reporting for the not-for-profit sector which reported in 2014. He as the principal author of the 2015 ACCA Companion Guide for Not-for-profits to the International Financial Reporting Standard for Small and Medium-sized Entities (IFRS for SMEs) and co-author of the 2015 Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (FRS 102) which is the authoritative interpretation of UK-Ireland Generally Accepted Accounting Practice for charity financial reporting.
Since leaving the Commission in 2022, Nigel is a volunteer panel member for the Healthcare Financial Management Association’s NHS Charity Finance Group and a trustee of the Association of Church Accountants and Treasurers. He specialises in advising on aspects of charity regulatory compliance, charity financial reporting, and developing policy and guides on non-profit financial governance and reporting.
Intended as an initial response to the CCAB research findings, Nigel always saw the ACCA Companion Guide as a stepping-stone to the non-profit sector having its own global framework.
“I am excited to be part of the IFR4NPO initiative because it is the first truly global framework for non-profits which will play a major part in enhancing financial reporting by the sector and underpin donor confidence in it and its achievements”
